LSU Football: Way-too-Early Game-by-Game Predictions for 2022
Starting the season 6-0 is going to create a lot of momentum for LSU, but a trip to Gainesville is going to be tricky for the Tigers. Like LSU, Florida is starting over with a new coaching staff and there is a lot of optimism about the potential that new head coach Billy Napier is going to bring to Gainesville. The Gators might not be playoff contenders this season, but Napier has a good reputation as a program builder and recruiter.
This is going to be where the Tigers take their first loss. Florida’s defense is going to be the toughest that the Tigers have faced up until this point and this is going to be the toughest road game so far. Expect a hotly contested battle, but Florida will come out on top against their cross-division rival.
Final Score: LSU 27, Florida 28 (6-1, 3-1)
After taking their first loss of the season, things are not going to get much easier for LSU when Ole Miss comes to town. The Rebels are dealing with some roster departure to the NFL and coaching turnover, but head coach Lane Kiffin has done a nice job retooling in Oxford. With Matt Corral leaving for the NFL, Kiffin recruited former USC quarterback Jaxson Dart to play for Ole Miss and Dart is the projected starter. Dart showed flashes at USC this past season and is a very talented quarterback.
The biggest question in this game might be the Rebels defense. Ole Miss lost coordinator DJ Durkin to Texas A&M and that could make the defense take a step back. There are a lot of new players in the Ole Miss starting lineup and they could take a step back after such a successful 2021 season.
Final Score: LSU 41, Ole Miss 34 (7-1, 4-1)
