Secondary

Starting cornerbacks: Denzel Burke, Cameron Brown
Backups: Jakailin Johnson, Jordan Hancock

Starting safeties: Tanner McCalister, Josh Proctor
Backups: Cameron Martinez, Bryson Shaw

Bullet: Ronnie Hickman
Backup: Kourt Williams

This is a group that is going to have to play better in 2022. It was not as bad as the linebackers, but there was some inconsistency with this group.

At cornerback, Denzel Burke is looking to build off of his Freshman All-American campaign that he had in 2021. Burke is a talented corner who could be the next first-round pick at the position for the Buckeyes. Cameron Brown should be back and he brings experience to the corner spot. There is not a lot of other experience at corner behind these two guys, so staying healthy will be key.

At safety, Oklahoma State transfer Tanner McCalister is coming over to play for his old defensive coordinator and should fit in immediately. McCalister is a good cover safety and will bring playmaking ability to a group that needs it. Josh Proctor should be back from his injury, but Bryson Shaw is ready to fill in if he is not ready.

The fifth defensive back position will likely be filled by Ronnie Hickman, who had over 100 tackles for Ohio State last season.
