SEC Football: Newcomers who’ll have biggest impacts in 2022
By Dante Pryor
10. Ole Miss (transfer): Jaxon Dart, QB
Zach Evans fits here for the Rebels, but Matt Corral’s departure to the NFL Draft left a void in the quarterback room in Oxford. Rising sophomore Luke Altmyer played in the Sugar Bowl and flashed at times. It was evident that he was not ready.
While Altmyer gets more seasoning and development, USC transfer Jaxon Dart should win the starting job. Dart’s ability to throw the football down the field is something coach Lane Kiffin covets. Dart showed incredible toughness and grit when starting quarterback Kedon Slovis went down with an injury.
Players seemed to gravitate toward Dart’s toughness and ability to get up when knocked down. Along with the eye black, that will win over a lot of fans and players at Mississippi.
9. Florida (transfer): Jack Miller III, QB
Like Mississippi, quarterback departures opened a door for Ohio State transfer quarterback Jack Miller. Last season’s starter, Emory Jones’ status is up in the air, and Anthony Richardson flashed at times last season but is still an unknown quantity.
Four-star recruit and Arizona native, Jack Miller, is also an unknown. Miller provides depth to the quarterback room and will push Jones and Richardson and Jones (if Jones decides to stay) for QB1. Despite being unproven, Miller has the ideal size and arm strength Billy Napier would covet in a quarterback.
