USC Football: Way-too-early 2022 depth chart projection
Running Back
Starter: Travis Dye
Backup: Austin Jones
Like the quarterback position, the running back position is going to be filled by some impact transfers.
Travis Dye is coming over from Oregon and hoping to lead the Trojans on the ground. He had a good 2021 season with the Ducks, rushing for over 1,200 yards and 16 touchdowns. He also contributed to receiving as well with 402 yards and two touchdowns. It has been a bit since USC had a strong presence at running back and Dye could give them just that.
The backup running back is likely to be Stanford transfer, Austin Jones. He has starting experience and should be in the mix for carries in every game.
Other guys to keep an eye on are Darwin Barlow and Raleek Brown. Barlow played some last year and flashed ability. Brown is a five-star recruit, but won’t be on campus until the summer. He is a dynamic athlete and can play in the backfield or in the slot and make an instant impact.
