Already, after two years, Brady Hoke’s Aztec team has adopted a slow, grinding method of football that wins. The Aztecs went 12-2 last year and were Mountain West title favorites until Utah State pulled a championship game upset.

Much was made of “Punt God” Matt Araiza. He’s gone, and so is Mountain West defensive player of the year Cameron Thomas. The defensive backfield also suffers losses, with standouts Trenton Thompson and Tayler Hawkins departing.

With little offense to speak of, this is going to be a rock fight all the way.

Final score: Boise State 13, San Diego State 10 (5-0, 2-0)

Jeff Tedford is back in the saddle again at Fresno State, after spending two years away from football. He comes in to a very healthy Bulldog program that former coach Kalen DeBoer left behind.

Of course, this is Jake Haener’s team, even if he did almost transfer to Washington in December. Back with him is future NFL receiver Jalen Cropper, and the defense returns quite a bit from last year’s squad as well.

Fresno State will be too much for the Broncos.

Final score: Fresno State 30, Boise State 20 (5-1, 2-1)
