Last year’s Air Force squad was the best Troy Calhoun has ever had. Going 10-3, the Falcons’ option attack featured a classic one-two punch from quarterback Haaziq Daniels and running back Brad Roberts. Both of those players accounted for at least 1,300 yards, and both of them are back.

The defense is more touch-and-go. Vince Sanford’s 9.5 sacks at linebacker are there, and leading tackler Trey Taylor comes back too. Significant losses on defense for Air Force are concerning though, but the Bronco offense doesn’t look in a position to capitalize.

Final score: Air Force 20, Boise State 16 (5-2, 2-2)

Colorado State’s Steve Addazio experience was awful. In the end, this traditional mid-major power found themselves going 4-12 in his two seasons there and rarely looked competitive.

Enter Jay Norvell. His 33-26 record is nothing to sneeze at, and he was able to develop pro prospects at Nevada. There’s some help coming in from Wolf Pack transfers, but it’s still not a great offense.

Defensively, there are nice pieces coming back, but the talent gap is just too large to compete against Boise State.

Final score: Boise State 34, Colorado State 13 (6-2, 3-2)
