Secondary

Starting cornerbacks: Jaylon Jones, Tyreek Chappell
Backups: Denver Harris, Deuce Harmon

Starting Nickel: Erick Young
Backup: Smoke Bouie

Starting safeties: Antonio Johnson, Demani Richardson
Backups: Bryce Anderson, Jardin Gilbert

This secondary is going to have a lot of experience to bring to the defense. Even beyond the guys listed here, A&M has guys that have starting potential and are going to factor into the defense.

Look for Jaylon Jones and Tyreek Chappell to be the starting cornerbacks. Chappell was one of the lower-rated recruits in the 2021 class, but he has been impressive from the start and should be in for a nice season in 2022. Jones is one of the most talented members of the defense and is ready for a big junior season. Erick Young is going to be a senior who brings a lot of experience to the defense.

At safety, Antonio Johnson and Demani Richardson will be the two starters. Johnson was one of the prized recruits in the 2020 recruiting cycle and hopes to have his best season in 2022. Richardson is yet another senior who just brings playing experience to the back end of the defense.
