Secondary

Starting Cornerbacks: D’Shawn Jamison and Jahdae Barron

Backups: Jamier Johnson and Kitan Crawford

Starting Safeties: Anthony Cook and Jerrin Thompson

Backups: Ryan Watts and JD Coffey III

This Texas secondary has talent but was inconsistent last season. The Longhorns did not finish in the top 50 of passing yards allowed and that is not a good category to be in. This unit is going to need a turnaround this season.

D’Shawn Jamison should have one of the corner spots locked up at the start of the season. Jahdae Barron was a guy that was on the two-deep last season and has experience. Jamier Johnson and Kitan Crawford are likely to be their backups. A guy to keep an eye on will be Ohio State transfer Ryan Watts.

At safety, Anthony Cook is back for another season and will be the leader in the secondary. With B.J. Foster no longer with the program, look for Jerrin Thompson to be the starter at the other safety position. Bryan Allen Jr is Texas’s highest-rated safety recruit in the 2022 recruiting cycle for Texas and he could challenge for playing time since he is an early enrollee.
