Clemson Football: Top 3 way-too-early breakout candidates for 2022
Most college football fans will remember when Clemson started Kelly Bryant at quarterback in 2018 despite it being clear that Trevor Lawrence was the most talented of the two. Lawrence eventually beat Bryant out and Clemson won the national championship. It could be a similar situation with DJ Uiagalelei and the top-ranked high school quarterback Cade Klubnik.
Klubnik is going to be an early enrollee at Clemson this spring and will get a chance to go through spring practice. That is a step toward him being able to earn the job at some point in 2022 if he does not win the job coming out of fall camp. Klubnik is very talented and might give the Tigers a higher ceiling to reach the ACC title and College Football Playoff.
Dabo Swinney has shown he will play the best players if they give the team the best chance to win. Klubnik has the talent to be the next great quarterback at a school that is used to producing them. He will be the Tigers’ top breakout star in 2022.
