The biggest question facing the Tar Heels this season is going to be how they replace one of the school’s greatest quarterbacks in Sam Howell. He was a great leader for the program and was a great passer and effective runner.

Replacing him will not be easy.

The good news for North Carolina is that they recruited one of the most talented quarterbacks in the class of 2021 in Drake Maye.

Maye was a high four-star quarterback in the 2021 class and is supposed to be one of the most talented gunslingers to ever sign with the program. The coaching staff is very excited about what Maye can bring to the offense, as he is supposed to be a deadly accurate quarterback who is a quick decision-maker.

He will have to earn the starting job, but Maye has the talent to be even better than Howell was and that is what makes him North Carolina’s top breakout candidate for 2022.
