2. Jarek Broussard, Michigan State

There are few players in the college football transfer portal this offseason with the kind of resume that former Colorado running back Jarek Broussard had.

In his freshman season back in 2020, Broussard won the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year award after leading the league in rushing yards in a shortened season. Broussard racked up 895 yards that season and followed it up with 661 yards on 142 carries last season.

That’s a drop from 5.7 yards per rushing attempt to 4.7. But look at the difference going to Michigan State made for Kenneth Walker who was productive at Wake Forest but not someone that was expected to contend for the Heisman Trophy.

Walker had two 579-yard seasons and averaged 5.9 and 4.9 yards per attempt in 2019 and 2020 only to get that average up to 6.2 last season to go along with 13 touchdowns.

Michigan State head coach Mel Tucker is also going to have some familiarity with Broussard since he signed just before Tucker went to Michigan State from Colorado as head coach.

Broussard had to see what the Spartans did for Walker and when you think about it that way, a kid ranked outside the top 100, should easily play better than that ranking indicates.

Broussard is ranked as a three-star recruit in the transfer portal rankings while Jalen Berger, another running back addition for MSU was a four-star. For my money though, Broussard will have a bigger impact in East Lansing next season.
