4. Penn State

Penn State football put together a really impressive 2022 recruiting class and it’s one that featured five-star quarterback Drew Allar from Ohio State, as well as a number of other top-100 recruits.

People might not believe that James Franklin earned his big salary in his latest contract extension and while he might be among the most overpaid coaches in college football, the man can recruit.

It’s still early in the 2023 recruiting class and the rankings are going to change a lot but Penn State football is off to a solid start with a top-5 class according to 247 and On3.

The biggest addition so far has been interior offensive lineman Alex Birchmeier out of Virginia, as well two others ranked in the top 200 overall. Penn State is going to have to work to keep this as a top-5 class but if the Nittany Lions keep recruiting like this, another top-10 college football recruiting class should be in the cards for Franklin.
