Big Ten Football: 3 most overpaid head coaches ahead of 2022

There are a number of Big Ten football coaches who earned massive contracts over the past couple of years. Which coaches are overpaid?

Everywhere you look in the Big Ten, there’s a head coach with a brand new contract.

From Scott Frost to Jim Harbaugh to Mel Tucker, the conference has seen coaches sign extensions and some have taken pay cuts.

Last year, it was Harbaugh who took a pay cut and it felt like his seat was warming up. He had gone yet another year without a Big Ten title and hadn’t beaten Ohio State still, but that all changed in 2021. Harbaugh earned his contract, and then some, beating Ohio State, winning his first Big Ten title, and making the school’s first playoff.

This year, it’s Frost who has seen his contract reduced after a 3-9 season with Nebraska. He went from making $5 million per year to about $4 million. Will he have the same success as Harbaugh after his contract was reduced? I have my doubts, but we’ll see.

With all of these new contracts, there are debates about which head coaches are overpaid and which ones don’t make quite enough.
