Johnson can thrive while Weigman gets experience

One thing I said previously about Johnson is that he’s not going to flinch about being involved in a legit quarterback competition or being on the sidelines for periods of time.

That’s bound to happen this season. We saw Michigan and Notre Dame using highly-touted freshmen last season in spots while developing J.J. McCarthy and Tyler Bucher, respectively, and I’d expect Fisher to do the same with Weigman.

It’s always possible that the freshman, who enrolled early, will beat out Johnson for the job outright, but the transition from high school to the SEC isn’t all that easy.

There are sure to be bumps along the road. So the best thing to do is to play the proven commodity in Johnson, as long as he’s productive, and get Weigman chances to play in certain spots that can aid the team in 2022, as well as his future development.
