Jaxson Dart

Going into the 2022 season, the Rebels will have a QB battle this spring. Sophomores Jaxson Dart and Luke Altymer will be competing for the starting role. Both were highly talented recruits coming out of high school. Dart, a four-star recruit, was the No. 10 quarterback in his class, while Altmyer, a four-star recruit, ranked twenty-first.

In Dart’s first and only season with the USC Trojans, he played six games and put up decent numbers in those games. He finished the season with 1,353 passing yards and a completion percentage of 61.9%. Dart had nine touchdowns and five interceptions. While not the most impressive numbers, the talent was on display. He had an outstanding game against Washington State. He had 391 passing yards, four touchdown passes, and two interceptions in that game.

Dart transferred to Ole Miss this offseason and was ranked as a five-star in the transfer portal by 247 sports. Head coach Lane Kiffin was a big reason he joined the Rebels.

Dart has everything needed to be a great quarterback. In an explosive offense like Ole Miss and with Lane Kiffin overseeing his development, Dart could put up big numbers if he earns the starting position.

Altmyer’s most notable appearance was the 2021 Sugar Bowl. He played all but the first quarter following Corral’s injury.

Of the two, Dart has more experience and talent. Many expect him to win the quarterback battle over the spring and be the starter next year. Kiffin pushed hard to get him to Oxford, which means he sees something in him. Otherwise, he would have stuck with Altmyer.

Dart is a young quarterback who will have time to develop and grow over the season. Next year, the Rebels schedule benefits its young quarterbacks, with most of their big SEC games scheduled later in the season. They will have time to learn and grow, so they will be ready when the time comes to play key games.

With the weapons surrounding him at Ole Miss and his arm talent, Dart could have an impressive season next year with the Rebels.
