Secondary

Starting Cornerbacks: Nate Wiggins and Sheridan Jones

Backups: Malcolm Greene and Fred Davis II

Starting Safeties: Jalyn Phillips and Andrew Mukuba

Backups: Lannden Zanders and R.J. Mickens

This is another position where Clemson football is going to have to replace some high-caliber players. Andrew Booth Jr and Mario Goodrich were a great pair of starting cornerbacks, but they are now off to the NFL. Nolan Turner was a leader for the program and he is gone and leaves a hole in the safety position. The secondary has the most questions of any position group on the defense.

The good thing for Clemson is that they have recruited this position well. Nate Wiggins could be a breakout star for the defense and should be one of the starting corners. Expect Sheridan Jones to join him on the other side. Jones is a senior and brings experience to a unit that needs it.

At safety, Jalyn Phillips and Andrew Mukuba are going to be the starters. Mukuba was the leading tackler in the secondary last season and is a solid player.

There is talent in the secondary, but there are questions that are going to have to be answered with three starters leaving.
