Oklahoma Football: Way-too-Early 2022 Depth Chart Projection
Linebacker
Starting Outside Linebacker: Danny Stutsman
Backup: David Ugwoegbu
Starting Inside Linebacker: Da’Shaun White
Backup: Shane Wittier
Starting Outside Linebacker: Clayton Smith
Backup: T.D. Roof
There is going to be starting experience here for the Sooners, but the depth might be questionable right now. This could be a spot where Oklahoma football might add a transfer after spring practice.
The best news that Oklahoma could have hoped for from the linebacker position happened when DaShaun White decided that he would come back for another season. White has been the starting inside linebacker for three seasons and is the leader of the defense.
Danny Stutsman is someone that the coaching staff thinks has a lot of potential and he flashed it at times last season. Stutsman was not the highest-rated recruit on the roster, but he looks like he could be a major contributor this season.
Clayton Smith was a highly-rated recruit in the 2021 class but did not play much last season. Expect him to earn a starting spot and be a breakout candidate this season.
For depth, Oklahoma is going to have to hope some young guys get better this spring. David Ugwoegbu was thought to be a breakout candidate last season but that never happened. The same thing goes for Shane Wittier.
