Linebacker

Starting Buck Linebacker: Jordan Strachan

Backup: Gilber Edmond

Starting Mike Linebacker: Sherrod Greene

Backup: Debo Williams

Starting Will Linebacker: Brad Johnson

Backup: Mohamed Kaba

The linebackers are going to get a boost from the return of middle linebacker Sherrod Greene this season. Greene broke his ankle early in the season in a game against Georgia and his return will be great for the defense as a whole. The biggest loss for this unit is going to be the Gamecocks’ best pass rusher Kingsley Enagbre. Enagbre is off to the NFL and he will be the guy that will be missed this season.

Look for some of last season’s backups to step up and be starters this season. At the Buck spot that was occupied by Enagbre last season, look for Jordan Strachan to take that position. Strachan had three sacks and 23 tackles as a backup last season and could be a breakout player for the Gamecocks.

Brad Johnson is going to be back at the Will linebacker spot after being the second leading tackler last season with 74 tackles. Debo Williams and Mohamed Kaba are going to be key backups that may have to play a bigger role this season.
