South Carolina football is going to return an experienced secondary in 2022, which they hope will help their defense rise in the rankings. The only starter from last season that is going to be missing is safety Jaylan Foster, who was the team’s leading tackler last season and leader in interceptions.

At the cornerback spots, both Cam Smith and Darius Rush are going to be returning on the outside. Smith had three interceptions last season and Rush had one and both bring loads of experience. Isaiah Norris and Marcellas Dial are going to be the likely backups this season.

RJ Roderick is going to be the most experienced safety for the Gamecocks and he was the third-leading tackler on the team with 64. Tyrese Ross will likely occupy the spot that was left vacant by Foster. At the nickel position, David Spaulding is back to round out the secondary. Spaulding had 20 tackles and one interception last season.
