Mike Gundy

The other three college football coaches on this list are underappreciated, but I feel like there isn’t a college football coach who is more underappreciated than Mike Gundy.

For one, Gundy has put together 16 consecutive winning seasons with Oklahoma State. The Cowboys have rarely won with that kind of consistency and in recent years, they have become a real threat to win the Big 12 on almost a yearly basis.

Gundy’s best season came in 2011 when the Cowboys were one loss at Iowa State away from an undefeated season. Yet, they won the Big 12 championship and that was one of nine seasons that saw OSU finish in the top 20 in the past 16 years.

Oklahoma State also has seven 10-win seasons and not once since his first year on the job have the Cowboys missed a bowl game. Sure, Gundy needs to beat Oklahoma more often but he did knock off the Sooners in 2021, his team just didn’t finish the Big 12 title game.

But still, it’s hard to name another coach with as many wins, who is as underappreciated as Mike Gundy is for what he’s done at Oklahoma State.
