The Rebels’ secondary unit will have a solid blend of youth and experience in 2022. While they did lose Keidron Smith, who’s been a steady contributor for the Rebels over the past few seasons. As well as Jaylon Jones and Tylan Knight, they still have a very deep backfield as a whole.

First and foremost, the team has both of their senior star safeties returning next season in A.J. Finley and Otis Reese. The duo combined for 181 tackles, 6 passes defended, and three interceptions in 2021. Backing them up we should see the two recent transfers step up in Isheem Young and Ladarius Tennison, both of whom could slide over to nickel if need be.

Meanwhile, at cornerback, Ole Miss will see returning senior Deantre Prince gear up for what’s expected to be a breakout campaign, alongside the 6’3″ athletic phenom, Miles Battle, who led the team last season in passes defended (8), recording one interception and 22 tackles in the process.

Sophomore, Tysheem Johnson, also feels primed for a big year in 2022, and can easily play in the nickel spot. While his backup will either be freshman Davison Igbinosun, or potentially even Taylor Groves. Who too could see ample playing time due to his incredible display in high school.
