2. Will the wide receivers break out this season?

If there has been one issue with the Notre Dame offense, it is the lack of explosive perimeter players. This lack of explosion has cost the Irish against elite football teams. Kyren Williams has been the most explosive offensive player for the Irish the last two seasons.

When opponents load the box against Williams, the Irish have not had the receiver capable of taking advantage of man coverage deep down the field. Notre Dame’s inability to make plays downfield cost them in the Fiesta Bowl as well.

Tight end Michael Mayer is a weapon and would be enhanced with a consistent downfield threat on the perimeter. A consistent perimeter threat that opens the seam would make Mayer even more of a weapon.

Enter sophomores Deion Kolzie and Lorenzo Styles. Kolzie is the best wide receiver prospect since William Fuller and Michael Floyd. Styles, who flashed at times last season, is a sure-handed receiver who can make people miss in the open field. Keep an eye on incoming freshman Tobias Merriweather as well.

This could be the most talented group of receivers Notre Dame has had in a long time; they just need reps.
