Huskers have to find an RB

Martinez was Nebraska’s leading rusher in each of the past three seasons and only once in the Frost era have the Huskers have a 1,000-yard rusher and that was Devine Ozigbo back in 2018.

Frost has never really found the answer at running back and even though Martinez and the lack of quarterback production is to blame, Nebraska hasn’t really been able to run the football, except with Martinez and option plays.

The Huskers were able to have some success last year and ran all over Northwestern, but when it matters like against Minnesota in short-yardage, they struggled to get it done.

The running back battle is wide open this spring with Rahmir Johnson the top rusher returning from last season along with Jaquez Yant who averaged 6.3 yards per attempt last season on 47 carries. Johnson averaged 4.4 and Yant has been a standout this spring.

Anthony Grant was also the top-rated JUCO running back and between one of these guys or even just the three of them, Nebraska football has to find a consistent running game.

The defense should be solid, despite some key losses, so it will be up to the offense to play winning football and an above-average running game would really help.
