5. Ole Miss Rebels (2021 record: 10-3)

Lane Kiffin and the Rebels were a pleasant surprise in college football last season, posting a 10-3 record with a berth in the Sugar Bowl against Baylor.

Although Ole Miss did lose the New Year’s Six bowl, it put up a good fight without starting quarterback Matt Corral who was injured in the first quarter. Corral will no longer be starting for the Rebels this season as he moves on to the NFL and they’re losing a wealth of other players such as Jerrion Ealy, Sam Williams, Dontario Drummond, and Braylon Sanders.

These are some tough losses and even the self-proclaimed “Portal King” will have a tough time replacing them. He did add some key pieces like Jaxson Dart, Michael Trigg, and Zach Evans, but the success won’t be quite repeated. There will be an adjustment process.

Plus, the schedule lines up for Ole Miss to have a rough end to the year. The Rebels could start the season 7-0 but there’s also a decent chance they lose their last five games, or at least four of them.

I like Kiffin and Ole Miss, but some people are expecting SEC title contention and I don’t see it happening in 2022.
