College Football: 10 schools likely to bounce back in 2022
By Dante Pryor
2. LSU Tigers
2021 Record: (6-6, 3-5 SEC)
Key Departures: Derek Stingley, Jr. (cornerback), Eli Ricks (cornerback), Ed Ingram (guard), Liam Shanahan (center)
Returning Starters: Kayshon Boutte (wide receiver), Jack Bech (wide receiver), B.J. Ojulari (defensive end), Ali Gaye (defensive end)
Key Newcomers: Jayden Daniels (transfer, quarterback), Noah Cain (transfer, running back), Joe Foucha (cornerback), Jarrick Bernard-Converse (transfer, cornerback)
Why LSU bounces back: Much like Florida, a change in philosophy can be good. New head coach Brian Kelly is more of a disciplinarian than outgoing coach Ed Orgeron. Kelly can come in and stabilize a program that has had a lot of drama.
The Tigers underperformed relative to their talent last season, most notably in the trenches. The offense had issues running the ball consistently, and the defense had problems stopping the run consistently.
Losing two of their best corners (one to the draft and the other to the portal) did no favors for the defense either.
The Tigers did a good job filling in some holes via the portal. Last season’s leading pass rushers, B.J. Ojulari, and Ali Gaye, return after missing eight games due to injury.
Offensively, Kayshon Boutte is one of the best young receivers in the country. Coach Kelly and the offensive staff need to figure out who will throw him the football.
