West Virginia Football: Top 3 offseason storylines for Mountaineers
By Daniel Walsh
Could the QB be someone else?
The second of the three quarterbacks primarily battling for the spot of starting signal caller is Will Crowder who’s a redshirt freshman entering his second year with the Mountaineer’s. There isn’t much on the Alabama native who appeared in only one game last year completing both of his only two passes for 28 yards. Even though Crowder has a 100% completion percentage it is in my (almost useless, I’m a blogger afterall) opinion that he is third in the running for signal caller.
That brings me to the third and most promising member of the QB battle, Morgantown’s new sweet prince Nicco Marchiol.
Marchiol was a four star (0.90) recruit coming out of highschool and the 19th ranked quarterback in his class. Marchiol comes to WVU as the Arizona Gatorade Player of the Year, MaxPreps Arizona Player of the Year, and also checks in nationally as the No. 10 pocket passer by ESPN, the No. 17 pro-style quarterback by Rivals and the No. 20 quarterback by 247Sports in this year’s class. He amassed 8,310 passing yards, threw 91 touchdowns across 43 games and added 1,301 yards and 24 scores on the ground. The kid can flat out ball and is the third best quarterback to ever commit to WVU according to 247sports.com.
So yeah, it feels good to finally have some promise at the most important position in sports after three years of complete mediocrity after Will Grier. Mountaineer fans can go into this season with high hopes for our future with whoever is named the starter. Personally, and this is my blog so I can do this, I hope it’s Marchiol. We need a Guy, and he certainly seemed like the Guy.
