A better QB situation

Is Max Johnson the solution to all of Texas A&M’s problems? Probably not. But he’s an upgrade over Zach Calzada and gives the Aggies a proven winner in the SEC.

Johnson had five 300-yard games last season for LSU and threw for 321 yards and three touchdowns in an upset win over Texas A&M. He threw 27 touchdowns total compared to just six interceptions.

He did get sacked way too much (33 times) but Texas A&M should be solid in the trenches once again and have a solid running game to boot behind Devon Achane, a potential Heisman Trophy candidate.

Johnson improves the position as a whole and he’s not alone in that as the Aggies have added five-star Conner Weigmann too. We’ll see how he does this spring and in the spring game (April 9) but it’s not guaranteed that Johnson starts over Weigmann or Haynes King, who started last year before getting hurt.

All three should get their chance but at the very least, Jimbo Fisher and the Aggies will know whichever quarterback wins the starting job will have earned it.
