Cotton Bowl (Jan. 2 NC State vs Coastal Carolina)

Led by the most productive college football quarterback people aren’t talking about in Devin Leary, North Carolina State is poised for one of its best seasons ever in 2022.

Not only do the Wolfpack have the talent to win double-digit games next season but they return a quarterback that threw 35 touchdown passes compared to just five interceptions. The Wolfpack scored a huge win over Clemson last season but won’t get the benefit of that game at home.

I’m projecting a loss to the Tigers but a win over Wake Forest. A 10 or 11-win season is entirely possible and with Notre Dame (another contender for this game) facing a challenging schedule that could lead to two or three losses, the Wolfpack are a good bet to reach a New Year’s Six bowl.

Houston is a viable contender to be the Group of Five representative in the New Year’s Six, while Cincinnati shouldn’t be discounted. My guess is that nobody makes it out of the American undefeated, so the berth will go to Grayson McCall and Coastal Carolina as long as they can run the table.
