A game against Utah Tech should give BYU a nice break.

Formerly known as Dixie State, Utah Tech is another recent call-up from Division II. They’ll join the reconstituted WAC this season.

The Trailblazers were in dire straits last year, finishing 1-10 while giving up nearly 40 points per game. At least freshman all-American defensive back Tyrell Grayson is a great talent for them.

Final Score: BYU 59, Utah Tech 3 (BYU 10-1)

2021 was the worst season David Shaw has had since he took over Stanford in 2011. The Cardinal went 3-9, and were anonymous, aside from upset wins against Oregon and USC.

Still, there’s hope for Stanford. While they don’t bring back either of their leading rushers from last year, the rest of the team is intact. Granted, that offense only ranked 99th in yards per play, but continuity is key.

On defense, they lose All-Pac 12 defensive end Thomas Booker, but have all their other major guys from a year ago. That includes Kyu Blu Kelly, who broke up 11 passes in 2021.

Although Stanford can expect to be much better in 2022, they won’t be able to beat BYU.

Final Score: BYU 27, Stanford 23 (BYU finishes 11-1)
