2022 College Football Rankings: Updated top 10 after spring
9. Oklahoma
Oklahoma suffered more losses in the offseason than any other college football team and it’s not really even close. Head coach Lincoln Riley left for USC and five-star quarterback Caleb Williams followed, along with other five-star commitments in the 2022 and 2023 recruiting classes.
However, the hire of Brent Venables was a win for Oklahoma. He’s got a championship pedigree from his time at Clemson and he knows what it takes to win at OU. The addition of Jeff Lebby as the offensive coordinator and former UCF starter Dillon Gabriel in the transfer portal was also key.
Baylor and Texas are the talk of the Big 12 right now and there is a reason for that, at least with Baylor, which won the conference title last season. Texas has tons of talent and if it realizes that potential, it could easily win the league title.
The offense is loaded with talent. Marvin Mims and Theo Wease will be just fine at wide receiver. The same can be said for Eric Gray and the other running backs such as talented freshman Gavin Sawchuk.
An improved defense and a pretty favorable schedule mean I wouldn’t be shocked if the Sooners won the Big 12 in 2022 or made the College Football Playoff.
