1. Drew Pyne continuing to prove himself

A few days ago, I was looking forward to watching one of the more intriguing quarterback battles in college football with Drew Pyne facing off with Tyler Buchner and Steve Angeli.

Then it was announced that Buchner suffered an ankle injury that would prevent him from playing in the annual scrimmage.

What does this mean? Well, it means that a huge door has opened for Drew Pyne to continue to prove himself worthy of the starting job. This could be a massive opportunity for Pyne with Buchner out and the only other competition being an unproven sophomore and an early enrolled true freshman.

Pyne was overlooked plenty last season despite playing well, finishing with 224 yards and two touchdowns on 15-of-30 passing. He was the clear third option (last resort) on a team with no clear starter and never really got a shot with Jack Coan and Buchner struggling.

This is a chance for Pyne to prove himself yet again and show that he’s not to be overlooked in this quarterback competition.
