West Virginia Football: Top 5 spring 2022 breakout candidates
By Daniel Walsh
1. Jasir Cox
I won’t pretend I’ve watched Jasir Cox play. But to be fair, I would never watch a North Dakota State Bison game. I’m sorry, they just don’t do it for me. That being said, I did watch Jasir Cox’s self-published highlight tape on Twitter and it was awesome.
Cox was a four-year veteran of the Bison program and earned second-team All-Missouri Valley Conference honors in 2021 on the strength of 58 tackles, including three for losses and 1.5 sacks. He also demonstrated his ability to play in space with three pass interceptions and two pass breakups.
His ability to play in space will really help him play at the next level. Though Cox played linebacker at NDSU, he will look to play the spear or cat safety positions for WVU. Cox has great size, and speed and also a natural skill for making plays and finding the ball.
This combination of skill and frame, along with him playing in a talented defense should allow him to tap into his true potential and become a real star at WVU.
