Breece Hall to the Jets (2nd round, 36th overall)

Not a single running back went in the first round of the 2022 NFL draft and part of that has to do with the way that NFL teams value the position.

Guys get beat up and even the best running backs don’t last. Look at the Giants and their star running back Saquon Barkley. My guess is they wish they didn’t use the No. 2 pick on him.

Fans might look at the Jets’ pick of 36th overall as too early for Breece Hall but I disagree. There was chatter about him going at the end of the first round and I think this pick makes perfect sense for the Jets in the 2022 NFL draft.

Few things are better for a young quarterback than a solid running game and while the Jets have Michael Carter, Hall is 6-foot-1, 220 pounds, and runs a 4.39. He also ran for nearly 4,000 yards in college at Iowa State and is a touchdown machine.

Sure, there is only going to be so much tread on the tires. But Hall, who also caught 82 career passes, scored 56 touchdowns in three seasons at Iowa State and that’s the kind of production New York needs at running back.

And when you think about Zach Wilson, Garrett Wilson, Breece Hall — that’s a pretty good starting point for the New York Jets offense.
