Boston College Football: 3 Upperclassmen who must step up in 2022
By Dante Pryor
2. Zay Flowers: Wide Receiver
If the Boston College Eagles hope to exceed six wins for the first time since 2018 or seven wins for the first time since 2009 (the Eagles went 8-5), their stars have to stay healthy and play like stars. Zay Flowers is one of those stars.
The offense is centered around quarterback Phil Jurkovec. He has tons of responsibility before and after the snap. Flowers is an essential piece because he gives Jurkovec both a reliable and a big-play receiver. Expect the senior to be the Eagles’ volume receiver this fall.
New offensive coordinator John McNulty has some work to do with the Boston College offense, but having a receiver-quarterback combination like Flowers and Jurkovec will make life easier.
Flowers’ numbers took a hit last season due to Jurkovec’s injury. Expect Flowers to be better this fall with a healthy starting quarterback. Coach McNulty will love having a talent like Flowers at wide receiver.
Expect to see McNulty use Flowers in multiple ways. Flowers can line up at the flanker, split end, or slot. He’ll be used in the run game as well. Expect Flowers and the Boston College offense to have a big season this fall.
