Louisville Football: 3 upperclassmen who need to step up in 2022
By Dante Pryor
1. Malik Cunningham, QB
Next season, there is no more important player for the Cardinals than Malik Cunningham. He took the job and made Evan Connely an afterthought last season. If Cunningham plays well, Louisville has a chance to win. If he gets hurt or plays poorly, it will be a long day for the Cards.
Cunningham has a lot of responsibility at the line of scrimmage because everything flows through him. The redshirt senior has done an outstanding job of getting better every season. After an exceptional 2019, Cunningham’s play took a bit of a dip in 2020. He rebounded last season.
Expect Cunningham to retake a step this season. The offensive line needs to play better than last season, and if they do, Malik could have a tremendous season. Tiyon Evans is an excellent addition in the backfield; he has the potential to be a game-breaker.
Dee Wiggins was solid at Miami but could fit better at Louisville. Tyler Hudson is another receiver from a lower level who was super productive at Central Arkansas and looked to be equally productive at the Power Five level.
Cunningham has lots of weapons around him and is poised to have a tremendous season. He’ll have to if the Cardinals want to make noise in the ACC.
