3. 2011

Head coach: Dana Holgorsen
Record: 10-3

This pick might come as a surprise to some but, man, did I love that air raid offense. I mean when you think of the most fun and exciting team in WVU history the 2011 team has to be No. 1.

This was a team with Geno Smith and Tavon Austin so it was improbable that it wouldn’t be electric. Just as I type those guys names I get a smile and have to stop to look up that sick picture of them (and Stedman Bailey) wearing those awesome air raid pilot jackets.

Though this team was exciting, dynamic, and high-powered, it lost three games to No. 2 LSU (during ESPN’s College GameDay’s first time in Morgantown), Syracuse, and Louisville.

Even with the three losses the 2011 season was still a success and marked the start of Dana Holgorsen’s tenure at WVU. Holgorsen promptly went 10-3, won the Big East, and beat the daylights out of Clemson in the Orange Bowl 70-33. Life was good then.
