6. Rutgers

I am a Greg Schiano believer through and through, and for the first time in a long time, I think Rutgers is competitive this season. Over the past few seasons, Rutgers has been showing much growth. In 2021, the Scarlet Knights went into Ann Arbor and were incredibly close to upsetting the eventual Big Ten champs (Michigan won 20-13 on a last-minute fumble).

In 2022, I see Rutgers having a similar season to the one prior — maybe taking a small step back record-wise because of the tough schedule. The team is well-coached — something that wins games in itself — and is well disciplined. If Rutgers continues to build, they could become what Jeff Brohm has done with Purdue (never the most talented but always handing around the 6-8 win mark).

In 2022, however, Rutgers has a grueling schedule that opens up on the road at Boston College. Although I could see Rutgers sharing their place in the division, the Scarlet Knights have a lot to work to do if they have their eyes set on post-season play in the coming years.

Record: 4-8; losses at Boston College, Iowa, Ohio State, Nebraska, Minnesota, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, and Maryland
