UConn will look better, but it won’t translate to many wins

The Huskies’ effort will continue this season. However, the roster isn’t ready to compete at the FBS level. There are too many questions at quarterback and the skill positions offensively and not much depth defensively. Coach Mora and his staff are in for a long season.

  • Game 1: at Utah State (L) — Coach Mora and the Huskies travel to Logan in the season opener, and this one could get ugly very early. The Aggies are a Mountain West contender, and the Huskies are bad.
  • Game 2: CCSU (W) — This could very well be the only game the Huskies win all season. Savor it, Husky fans.
  • Game 3: Syracuse (L) — Syracuse could be one of the best running teams in the country against one of the worst run defenses in the country.
  • Game 4: at Michigan (L) — This is one of two paycheck games for the Huskies. Enjoy the ambiance of the Big House; the game won’t be that pretty.
  • Game 5: at NC State (L) — This is the second of two paycheck games for the Huskies. UConn is overwhelmed on both lines of scrimmage.
  • Game 6: Fresno State (L) — Unlike Randy Edsall, Jeff Tedford proves he can go home again. Bulldogs travel cross-country. Huskies make this a game for about a quarter before Fresno wakes up.
  • Game 7: at Florida International (L) — The Panthers are awful, and this is a coinflip game. However, Duke transfer Gunnar Holmberg is the difference because who knows what a quarterback looks like for UConn.
  • Game 8: at Ball State (L) — Ball State runs and throws all over UConn without Drew Plitt.
  • Game 9: Boston College (L) — How did UConn get Boston College to agree to play on the road against UConn? No matter, the Eagles win big.
  • Game 10: UMass (L) — This game needs a trophy in the shape of a pillow or the letter U. UMass beats UConn in the Pillow Fight of the Century of the Week.
  • Game 11: Liberty (L) — The Flames have learned to play without the dynamic Malik Willis by this point in the season. UConn is still bad.
  • Game 12: at Army (L) — The Huskies end the season by surrendering 400 rushing yards to the Black Knights. A depleted Huskies team loses going away.

Prediction: 1-11

UConn struggles this season to score points and stop opposing offenses. Jim Mora and his staff will get maximum effort from this roster; however, the roster is not very good. The measure of progress this season is the margin of loss. It will be interesting to see how many games they can hang around for three quarters.
