A tough schedule for MTSU football.

  • Game 1: at James Madison (L) – With FBS’s newest member coming in, MTSU football has a tough draw, going to Harrisonburg to face James Madison. JMU went 12-2 in FCS in 2021, and they’re a seven-point favorite against MTSU to start the year. Doesn’t look good at all for MTSU.
  • Game 2: at Colorado State (W) – Jay Norvell took the Rams job this offseason, and they’ve loaded up on Nevada transfers. Nevada was a solid team last year, but it won’t translate to a win for Colorado State. MTSU gets out of Colorado Springs with a win.
  • Game 3: Tennessee State (W) – Although this should be a fairly comfortable win, Tennessee State has had some good teams in the past, and could make this interesting for the Blue Raiders.
  • Game 4: at Miami (FL) (L) – Oh god no, MTSU heads to Miami for what will surely be a loss against Mario Cristobal’s Hurricane team.
  • Game 5: UTSA (L) – MTSU closes out September with a game against Conference USA champions UTSA. The Roadrunners still possess a solid team, and will defeat the Blue Raiders in Murfreesboro.
  • Game 6: at UAB (L) – Bill Clark’s sudden retirement throws a lot of UAB’s foundation into doubt, but UAB’s talent advantage should be solid enough to keep them ahead of MTSU in this game.
  • Game 7: Western Kentucky (W) – Sure, former WVU QB Jarett Doege stepped up for the Hilltoppers, but little else remains from a team that were C-USA runners-up last year. The Blue Raiders should be able to keep Western Kentucky at bay.
  • Game 8: at UTEP (L) – Star receiver Jacob Cowing transfers to Arizona, but the Miners still have a very potent offensive attack that can break through the MTSU wall.
  • Game 9: at Louisiana Tech (W) – Louisiana Tech’s defense is porta-potty bad, and MTSU may find themselves on the right side of a comfortable win in this one.
  • Game 10: Charlotte (W) – Charlotte had virtually no consistency in 2021, and this year may be little different. The 49ers could win this game, but MTSU should have the edge.
  • Game 11: Florida Atlantic (W) – Willie Taggart’s team was another team bitten by inconsistent play in 2021. Unlike Charlotte, though, this team has some talent, and it will be a very close game.
  • Game 12: at FIU (W) – Florida International is terrible, and will be one of the 10 worst teams in all of FBS in 2022. This should be a comfortable win for MTSU to close out the regular season.

Final prediction: 7-5 (5-3)

Much like their previous seasons, MTSU’s schedule is hard, but does open up at the back end of the year. With tons of inexperience, MTSU could well finish 4-8, but 7-5 is the most likely scenario. In other words, this year is shaping up to be another Stockstill special.
