Things have gotten ugly for Georgia Tech football over the past few seasons, can the Yellow Jackets right the ship in 2022?

It’s safe to say that things have not gone as planned for the Georgia Tech football program after replacing long-time coach Paul Johnson with  Geoff Collins.

Collins had built a winning program at Temple, which isn’t easy to do, but after taking the Owls to multiple bowl games, he hasn’t found the same success with the Yellow Jackets, who have won just three games in each of the past three seasons.

It wasn’t that long ago that Georgia Tech football had guys like Joe Hamilton, Calvin Johnson, and Demaryius Thomas, as the Jackets were an ACC contender.

However, changing the offense to a modern system has caused some problems and the defense hasn’t been much better as evidenced by the 100-0 beat down suffered at the hands of Georiga and Notre Dame to close out the 2021 season.

Making matters worse is that former leading rusher Jahmyr Gibbs hit the transfer portal and is now expected to be Alabama’s leading running back in 2022. GT’s second-leading rusher also left for the NFL.

There is some talent though, especially on the offensive side of the ball and hopefully, the growing pains over the past three years have been worth it. Collins took over a big-time rebuild as he tried to transform Georgia Tech football into a modern ACC power.

If anything though, the Yellow Jackets have gone backward. Sometimes, you need to take a step back before taking a step forward. Yet, if progress isn’t shown this season, Collins is probably going to be shown the door.

So with that in mind, let’s look at what Georgia Tech football has on offense in 2022. We’ll also break down the defense, the schedule and offer our win-loss predictions.
