Defense

Georgia Tech’s offense was bad in 2021, but the defense wasn’t much better. The Yellow Jackets had one of the worst pass defenses in the country and were also pretty poor against the run.

The defense surrendered 456 yards of total offense per game last season and also wasn’t very effective in terms of taking the ball away, forcing just 1.1 takeaways per game.

Those numbers will need to improve but the Yellow Jackets are also losing some of their top defenders from a season ago as Quez Jackson and Juanyeh Thomas are both gone and other key performers left via the transfer portal.

Ayinde Eley and Charlie Thomas will both be back at linebacker and they ranked second and fourth in total tackles a season ago.

The Yellow Jackets also have some intriguing transfers in the secondary and on the edge in Keion White, who had 19.5 tackles for loss and three sacks for Old Dominion back in 2019 before being hurt last season with Georgia Tech.
