Georgia Tech football 2022 predictions

The Yellow Jackets haven’t lived up to expectations the past few seasons under Geoff Collins but it’s not going to get any easier in 2022.

The schedule is a beast and the non-conference slate includes one FCS opponent, as well as UCF, Ole Miss, and Georgia. So the Yellow Jackets will really need to take a leap this season if they are going to contend for bowl eligibility.

  • Game 1: vs Clemson (L) – This game is on a neutral field but it won’t matter. The Tigers will win by a few touchdowns to start the 2022 season.
  • Game 2: vs Western Carolina (W) – The Yellow Jackets get a win and some much-needed confidence heading into a couple of key non-conference showdowns.
  • Game 3: vs Ole Miss (L) – Even if the pass defense is improved, it won’t be nearly good enough to slow down Lane Kiffin, QB Jaxson Dart, and what should be an explosive Rebels offense.
  • Game 4: at UCF (L) – This should be a competitive game and if the Yellow Jackets were at home, they might pull out the win but winning in Orlando won’t be easy and Georgia Tech drops a close one to the Knights.
  • Game 5: at Pitt (L) – Kenny Pickett might be gone but Kedon Slovis was a great pickup and the Panthers should be one of the ACC’s better teams once again in 2022.
  • Game 6: vs Duke (W) – If Collins doesn’t win this game, he might be out of a job. The seat is going to be hot by the time Duke comes calling and Georgia Tech keeps their slim hopes of reaching a bowl game alive.
  • Game 7: vs Virginia (W) – In a sign of true progress, Georgia Tech wins back-to-back ACC games after a win over Virginia. Brennan Armstrong and the Cavs should be solid, but Collins finally gets a defining win of sorts.
  • Game 8: at Florida State (L) – Florida State finally showed signs of life down the stretch last season and Mike Norvell can’t afford a loss to Georgia Tech.
  • Game 9: at Virginia Tech (L) – As we said, the schedule is brutal and while the Hokies are rebuilding too, I don’t see the Yellow Jackets winning in Blacksburg this year.
  • Game 10: vs Miami (L) – The Yellow Jackets aren’t going to have an answer for Tyler Van Dyke. Sims and company keep GT in the game but Miami will escape with a win.
  • Game 11: at North Carolina (L) – Georgia Tech’s brutal road schedule continues to haunt the Jackets who fall short against a Tar Heel team with something to play for.
  • Game 12: at Georgia (L) – If Collins is still the head coach, winning this game might be the last chance to save his job, but the Dawgs will destroy Tech just as badly as they did in 2021 or close, clinching another three-win season for their in-state rival.

Prediction 3-9 overall, 1-7 ACC

Georgia Tech football should be improved, especially on the offensive side of the ball. However, the schedule does the Yellow Jackets no favors and unless it can beat some fellow bowl contenders such as Virginia Tech, North Carolina, UCF, and Florida State on the road, a bowl game seems like a long shot, and another three-win season will likely mean a new head coach.
