Offense

Vedral should be back to start for a third season after transferring from Nebraska, but after leading a scoring offense that ranked 120th in the FBS, there should be a healthy competition at quarterback.

Wimsatt was viewed by some as a five-star prospect and even though he dropped a little bit before he re-classified, his commitment was still huge for the Scarlet Knights. You need difference makers at the most important positions and it’s been a long time since Rutgers had a game-changing QB.

Will he be ready this season? That we don’t know. The running game will be looking to Kyle Monangai who ran for over 200 yards and four touchdowns as the No. 2 a season ago, while the addition of Taj Harris (3 seasons over 500 yards) from Syracuse in the transfer portal should help.

Aron Cruickshank is another weapon at wide receiver and West Virginia transfer Sean Ryan can’t be discounted.

Vedral threw for just over 1,800 yards last season and completed 59 percent of his passes. He’s a dual-threat of sorts and that’s not a bad thing because the offensive line is almost entirely brand new and built on transfers.

The loss of Bo Melton hurts and we’ll see if Harris and others can fill the void, but at some point, if the offense can’t average 20 points a game under Vedral, it’s time to give Wimsatt a try.
