Ole Miss football

Lane Kiffin has been a great hire for Ole Miss football and he showed that last season by getting the Rebels to the Sugar Bowl after a 10-2 season.

Kiffin also has some giants to contend with when it comes to recruiting as the SEC features Alabama, Georgia, Texas A&M, LSU, Florida, and on and on.

It makes it hard for the Rebels to gain a foothold and it could become even more difficult once Texas and Oklahoma have the SEC attached to their brand.

Ole Miss football did sign the No. 15th-ranked class in 2022 however, and that’s why after a stellar season, you expected the Rebels to be landing more blue-chip prospects, but so far in 2023, just one top-100 recruit has given a verbal commitment. There are five pledges total and Ole Miss is ranked 64th overall.

Kiffin and the Rebels did land Marcel Reed, a three-star QB but missed on Jaden Rashada, a QB ranked in the top 50 overall.

The self-proclaimed “Portal King” has shown he can add talent that way, so maybe traditional recruiting just isn’t the ticket for Ole Miss.

But if the Rebels are ever going to win an SEC championship, they are going to need to start adding the kind of elite depth to match the powers that be and so far, that hasn’t happened.
