Nebraska football is at crossroads. Several changes have been made. Scott Frost needs to deliver immediately or his days in Lincoln will be finished.

Entering his fifth season in Lincoln, Scott Frost has yet to post a winning record. Overall the Huskers are 15-29 under Frost. Last season was a low point, a 3-9 mark was the worst winning percentage for the Huskers since the 1957 season.

Despite the record, the Huskers were in every game. Eight of their nine losses were by a single score. The other was to Ohio State by nine points and it was closer than the final score indicated. But as they say, your record is your record and 3-9 is dismal.

After four straight losing seasons, many coaches would have been shown the door. However, Frost’s ties to the program as the Huskers’ national championship-winning quarterback in 1997 have delivered him at least a one-season reprieve.

Athletic director Trev Alberts did restructure Frost’s contract after last season. His salary was reduced from 5 million to 4 million and the buyout was cut in half from 15 million to 7.5 million if the school fires him after October 1st this season.

The contract promises to move his salary back to 5 million if the team achieves benchmarks agreed to by both parties. The benchmarks were not explicitly mentioned in the contract but one would imagine the goal of a winning season tops the list.

After the contract restructure, all but one of the offensive coaches were let go. Frost is also no longer the offensive coordinator. Those duties will be filled by Mark Whipple, who had the same role in Pittsburgh a year ago which saw quarterback Kenny Pickett and the Panthers win an ACC championship.

So the pressure is tremendous on Frost. His seat is one of the hottest in the country right now and he needs to find immediate results. It is now or never. Let’s take a look at this year’s edition of the Cornhuskers.
