Cotton Bowl (Dec. 31) Houston vs Texas

Texas added some major talent in the transfer portal, some from Alabama, but the most important piece was from Ohio State and that’s former No. 1 overall QB in 2022 Quinn Ewers.

The Longhorns added some talented receivers to go along with Xavier Worthy. You add former Bama tight end Jace Billingsley along with the receivers and returning All-American caliber running back Bijan Robinson, and the Texas offense is going to be loaded.

And outside of the Alabama game in non-conference play, as well as the Red River Shootout, the schedule is manageable. Baylor comes to Austin for the final game of the regular season. The winner could head to the Big 12 title game and I believe the Horns win it.

Then, after losing to OU for the Big 12 title, they will head to Dallas for the Cotton Bowl, where old Southwest Conference rival Houston will be waiting.

The Cougars will be headed to the Big 12 conference soon enough, but in 2022, they will do enough to earn a New Year’s Six bid in this bowl projection. Clayton Tune is legit and Houston nearly won the American last season.

Houston avoids Cincinnati and the schedule isn’t all that brutal. A 13-0 season isn’t out of the question but even then, a College Football Playoff berth could be hard to come by.

Remember, the Bearcats beat Notre Dame on the road last season, otherwise, the committee would have probably ignored them too.
