Sugar Bowl (Jan. 2) Oklahoma vs Texas A&M

Texas A&M football should have a great chance to be a College Football Playoff contender in 2022 but the issue is that the SEC is going to be tough to get through.

It’s entirely possible that Jimbo Fisher’s team wins every single game on the schedule but the one against Alabama and that will make it very tough to reach the playoff, especially if Georgia is undefeated in the regular season and wins the SEC East.

Even if UGA loses to Bama in the title game again, it doesn’t seem likely that A&M, if it also lost to Bama, would get the nod over the defending national champions.

The A&M defense should be elite and the QB play should be better. That will still lead to the second New Year’s Six bowl under Jimbo Fisher and this bowl projection has Oklahoma as the opponent.

Brent Venables and the Sooners are the best team in the Big 12 in my opinion. But I think they’ll be upset by Nebraska or maybe even Texas in the Red River game. Either way, this will be a matchup of one-loss teams both on the outside of the playoff looking in.
