No. 1 Heisman Trophy Candidate: Bryce Young

As impressive as Bryce Young was last season at Alabama, Stroud probably had more eye-popping numbers. Stroud had eight games with at least four touchdown passes and six games with 400 yards passing or more. He also had a pair of six touchdown games, one of which was in the Rose Bowl.

Young though, gets the benefit of playing in the SEC. The competition is viewed as tougher and so the stats don’t matter quite as much. The junior still had impressive numbers though and tossed three touchdowns in at least nine games. He also had eight games with at least 300 yards. Plus, he was clutch when he needed to be.

This season, Young will have to put up similar numbers and if he delivers another SEC championship, that will certainly help.

Like Stroud, Young has another Heisman contender on his team and that could hurt his chances of winning another, but if Alabama is far and away the best team, as some expect it to be in 2022 and Young is the leader with his play, it’s hard to bet against him as a repeat winner.
