It would be nice to get a rivalry back

One of the worst consequences of college football realignment has been the loss of so many rivalry games. It all started with the Southwest Conference.

There were some great rivalries that fell apart because the league went by the wayside. That definitely hurt college sports and college football in particular.

Nebraska-Oklahoma, Pitt-West Virginia, Texas-Texas A&M, and soon Oklahoma vs Oklahoma State, have also fallen victim to the changing landscape of college football.

Nebraska and Oklahoma will play this year, as well as Pitt and West Virginia. But the games aren’t every year and that’s a disappointment to those fans, just like it is for most Michigan and Notre Dame football fans that they don’t play.

Of course, the rivalry doesn’t go back as far as some might suggest. The two storied programs played every year from 1978-2014. Since then, just twice and the next game isn’t on the schedule.

Both teams have challenging schedules but it’s a great rivalry and it would be nice to see a classic series renewed instead of ended.
