5 college football teams that could surprisingly go undefeated in 2022
Every year, there seem to be college football teams that surprise everyone and push for an undefeated season. Who could do that this year?
Going undefeated in college football is no easy task. Every year, teams try to run the table, and very few, if any, succeed.
Every year, however, there are some surprise teams who go unbeaten over halfway through the year. Last year, there were a number of undefeated teams well into the season and some of them were rather surprising (Wake Forest and Michigan State were good examples). They eventually fell off but still finished with double-digit wins and made solid bowl games.
There were also some surprising Power Five conference champions such as Michigan, Baylor, and Pitt. None of them were projected to win their conferences at the beginning of the year, nor really even contend, but they showed just why college football is so beautiful: it’s unpredictable.
We also saw a surprise undefeated team in the regular season in 2021 as Cincinnati finally broke through and ended the Group of Five’s playoff-less streak.
It’s tough to go undefeated in the regular season, but I think there are some surprise teams who could do just what Cincinnati did last year. Who are they?
Note: This is based on regular season results only, not including the postseason.
